LEED, a program of the US Green Building Council, is a 3rd party green building rating system created to verify efficiency and sustainability. LEED Certified buildings are resource efficient consuming less water and energy thereby reducing their carbon footprint.
When pursuing LEED certification projects earn points across several areas addressing sustainability issues. Based on the number of points a project has achieved it then receives one of four LEED rating levels: Certified, Silver, Gold and Platinum.
